Support us in bringing diverse and inclusive talks to students and creatives interested in media.

Summary of our project

This year, in the week following International Women’s Day and their theme of ‘Equity’, we will be celebrating the influential impact of women in the media industry at the first ever Women in Media Careers Week, hosted by Epigram and the Croft.

Featuring many Bristol alumni, we have three exciting panel talks in store for any aspiring creatives where you will be able to gain a deep-dive into the career journeys of our speakers, the effect of their prolific work, and crucially gain an insight into how to navigate the field of journalism after university. We have secured a talented, diverse range of women on each panel, including Alice Bhandhukravi (BBC London), Mel Rodrigues (Gritty Talent), Nicki Shields (BBC/CNN/ITV), and Nikki Waldron (BBC).

Our events will cover all areas of the media industry from broadcast journalism to print writing. Each talk is to be hosted by the event founder Marine Saint and Epigram's Creative Director Freya Shaw, with the chance for you to pose questions to our speakers at the Q&A at the end of each session.

We are offering a coffee morning featuring recent grads for an informal insight into the field, as well as question and answer panels with our high-flying, established alumni. All of our events will be filmed, and documented to create as wide spread community for our event as possible. Our ethos is all about empowering, including and inspiring the next generation of women in media.

Who are WE?

We are an all female, student creative team working on a project hosted by Epigram and the Croft. Epigram is the University of Bristol’s award winning independent student newspaper. The newspaper has generated a diverse and prolific community of people within the current journalism industry. Founded in 1988, we have been an integral part of the university and have been at the forefront of student media in Bristol and the UK as a whole. The initiative behind our event is to create an accessible and affordable insight into the career paths of alumni and other big faces within the profession. We are aiming specifically to create a space in which aspiring female and non-binary creatives can access an inclusive gateway into their field of choice.

Where will the money go?

  • Our target is £2,000 and the money that we raise will go to funding our events as well as the requirements of our speakers.
  • Once we reach £1,000 of funding, the University will provide match funding to help us reach our goal enabling our event to run as successfully as possible.
