The Hobson Cup was started in memory of Jack Hobson, a much loved UBTC club member, who sadly passed away after graduating. The annual event comprises of 3 events in which alumni face off against current student members of UBTC: a tennis tournament, netball match and a football match.
My name is Ravi Sharda and I am a tennis coach for the University of Bristol. I was a UBTC member between 2017-2020 and greatly enjoyed my time at the club, with the Hobson Cup always being one of the highlights of the year.
Where will the money go?
As a key part of the Hobson Cup, we are fundraising for the Healthy Minds programme, run by SEH (Sports, Exercise and Health). Healthy Minds aims to help students facing mental health difficulties by supporting them to take positive steps to improve their mental health through a varied and socially engaging programme of physical activity.
Students gain a healthy routine, improved confidence, a sense of community and a supportive network. Upon completion of the programme, 78% of participants score within or higher than the national average mental health score.
Over 500 Bristol students have benefitted from the programme so far, and we'd love to give this chance to many more! Your donations will help fund what core funding cannot.
Every pound we raise through the Cup will go towards improving the quality and quantity of support offered by Healthy Minds, helping even more students to overcome mental health challenges.
