bristol dance needs your support to compete at national level
Who are WE?
We are Bristol Dance Competition Squad! A part of Bristol Dance Society, we are a student lead university group. We have 10 comp teams in different dance styles and levels including: Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap and Afrobeats.
We are a very successful competition squad. Last year alone we won 12 trophies at Sheffield and Manchester and took two new teams!
our story
We are raising money to enter our competition teams into the University of Sheffield Dance Competition and GHGH University Dance Championships in Nottingham - taking place in March 2025. We have been hard at work rehearsing in our teams since September, including choreographing all our own dances.
These competitions are at a national level with the best dancers from universities across the UK. Despite this, and dance being a physically demanding sport, there are no dance competitions that are part of British University & Colleges Sport (BUCS). Therefore, we receive no external funding for these competitions and are completely self-sufficient. As our competition squad is just one part of our society, we cannot rely on our memberships alone to meet comp costs.
We want to continue to make our competition squad inclusive and affordable for all so that money is never the reason people can't pursue their passion in dance.
Where will your donations go?
As part of competitions, we have to pay for entry fees, coach travel, costumes and studio hire for some rehearsals/auditions. All money we receive will go directly towards these costs. Here is a breakdown of our costs:
- The entry fee for each dancer is £27 per competition.
- Coach travel is roughly £2,400 per competition.
In addition to studio hire, this brings the total overall cost of attending two competitions for 77 dancers to £9,000 (excluding costumes). We are exploring other avenues of funding to help supplement donations from our generous supporters.
