Who are we?
We are the University of Bristol Basketball Club. We are a dynamic and diverse student-run society with four teams competing in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Leagues and one team in the West of England Basketball League. As a Student Union-affiliated club, we are proud to have over 150 active members and a thriving alumni community.
Our Mission
We are committed to making basketball accessible to all students, regardless of their background. To achieve this, we strive to keep our membership fees affordable, while continuing to grow as a competitive force in university sports. However, basketball in the UK sadly receives limited support, despite being “England’s second most popular team sport” and a catalyst for “removing barriers, connecting communities, and getting people active”, as highlighted by Basketball England (2024).
Why We Need Your Help
To enhance the development of our teams while keeping basketball accessible, we are raising funds to purchase a Veo camera set. This essential piece of equipment will allow us to record and review our games, improving our performance through detailed analysis.
Our achievements
We've just wrapped up an incredibly successful season, with both our Men’s and Women’s First teams winning their respective leagues and earning promotions to Division 1. Notably, our Women’s team went undefeated throughout the season, also securing the Conference Cup title.
We are also committed to inclusive sports, proudly partnering with the UWE Pirates Wheelchair Basketball Club and organising the University’s first ever inclusive varsity events, which garnered significant media coverage from the Student Union and Bristol Sport pages. We believe our commitment to our mission and values is what led us to win the Bristol SU Sports Club of the year award.
Why Your Support Matters
To help our players and teams take their game to the next level, we are aiming to purchase a Veo camera set. A Veo camera operates without the need for someone to operate it. It also provides in depth analysis and playback of the performance of all players. It also means that our fans, alumni, and supporters—wherever they are—can watch and celebrate our games with us.
This will significantly level the playing field for us, giving us a vital tool for both player development and promoting our club to the wider community. Filming our games would not only boost our chances of competing at a higher level but also allow us to showcase the immense talent we have here at Bristol.
How You Can Help
Thanks to Bristol SU and Bristol alumni and friends, we have already secured £1,100 towards this important piece of kit. We are looking to raise at least £1,600 to help cover the total costs of the Veo Camera Set. What's more, Bristol alumni and friends will generously match all donations to our project. Please help us reach our goal of raising an additional £1,000. This will help purchase the Veo Camera Set and cover the costs of the first year's subscription.
