Up In Arms Synopsis
An MP goes in for a routine evening talk show, which then becomes derailed when he verbally slips up. We are left to observe the aftermath as he flies back into the green room to consult with his shrewd but fresh-faced publicist on how best to manage the fallout.
This story delves into the themes of power, truth, image, morality, and control. It examines the fragile nature of public personas and the widening gap between personal integrity and political survival. Through tense conversations and shifting power dynamics, we explore how moments of crisis expose a person’s true character. The film highlights the conflict between calculated damage control and raw emotional reckoning, asking whether the pursuit of power inevitably leads to moral compromise.
our story
We are raising money to produce our University of Bristol Film and Television graduate project film ‘Up in Arms’.
We are six third year students, Ned Button, Joel Adams, Finn Dempster, Daniel Isaacson, Sam Bain and Angus Macdonald.
We attempt to take the best of Armando Iannucci's sharp, quick-witted dialogue and the ruthless character dynamics of Jesse Armstrong’s work to tell a story in a world where one verbal misstep can send shockwaves through an entire career. We delve into the frantic, behind-the-scenes scramble of a politician trying to contain the fallout. With the walls closing in, the green room becomes a battleground where loyalty is tested, ethics are blurred, and the struggle for control turns personal.
By supporting this project, you are not only helping bring this gripping story to life, but also championing us, as emerging filmmakers who are dedicated to crafting bold, thought-provoking short films. Every contribution allows us to push the boundaries of our storytelling, refine our vision, and deliver a film that resonates. We can’t wait to share this journey with you!
Where will the money go?
With your donations, we can create the film we want to make; a chaotic and suffocating story of consequence. Our incredible cast is at the heart of the story, and we are committed to compensating them fairly for their talent and dedication. Our location and set hire will provide the perfect backdrop, ensuring authenticity and suffocating atmosphere we desire. Thoughtfully chosen props, set dressing, and costumes will enrich the set and the characters we’re creating, adding layers of depth and realism. To keep our hardworking cast and crew energised, we have set aside funds for catering, while travel costs ensure everyone arrives on set ready to give their best. Finally, production costs will cover all the behind-the-scenes essentials that bring everything together seamlessly.
- Actors £300
- Location/set hire (6 days): £200
- Props/Set Dressing: £100
- Costumes: £100
- Catering for the shoot: £80
- Travel (transport for cast and crew): £80
- Production costs £140
Any extra funds we raise will be spent on marketing and promoting the film further, after its completion. We may start to think about getting it into festivals if we exceed our goal.
We will give weekly updates on our pre and post production campaign, with a breakdown of how the shoot went during our shoot week.

We want to give back to our very generous supporters in a way that shows the extent of our gratitude for helping our film, and making it the very best it can be. We have a list of the different tiered rewards that you can take a gander at on the right hand side of the page.
