Help the Hong Kong History Centre to continue our vital work in raising public awareness
Established in 2022, the Centre is the world’s first research centre focussing on the history of Hong Kong and its people. It builds on the internationally renowned Hong Kong History Project and in less than two years, it has quickly established itself as a leader in facilitating the study of Hong Kong history.
In its first few years the Centre has been busy, actively growing our community through research and public engagement activities and there is lots more we want to achieve.
We have been investing in emerging research talent in the field and supporting research activity such as conferences and workshops in Britain, Hong Kong and Canada. We’ve rapidly grown an important network of international scholars.
Essential to our aims is strong public engagement. The Centre organises weekend History Salons. Open to everyone, these talks provide a forum for the local HK community to learn, engage and discuss the History of Hong Kong, mostly in Cantonese.
Members of the public attending these events have enjoyed learning about the history of Hong Kong, putting their questions to the speaker, as well as enjoying a taste of home with the Hong Kong style refreshments which are provided by the Centre.
Hong Kong history remains an under-represented field of study and one of our missions is to raise public awareness of its history and global relations. This includes:
- Supporting Hong Kong history research by investing in the next generation of researchers
- Building Britain's first Hong Kong Collections
- Academic speaker series for researchers
- Hong Kong Documented - a YouTube series
- Annual Hong Kong History Day
- Annual Hong Kong History Conference
- International visiting scholar programme.
Your generosity will directly contribute towards the vital ongoing work that the Hong Kong History Centre does to increase public awareness of HK history. From all at the Centre, thank you.
