Help us improve our collaborative editing opportunities with a new iMac

We are raising £750 to contribute towards the cost of a new iMac for the media suite which we co-share at Bristol SU.

Who are we?

We are UBTV, the University of Bristol's award winning television society. We are the most subscribed student television society in the country, boasting over 6000 subscribers. We are fully student-led and run, and create fun and engaging content for YouTube. This year we have three departments: News, Entertainment and Nightlife. We have had the opportunity to cover some fantastic events too such as The Bristol Fighter, Trashion and Clicendales, which are incredibly popular among students.

This project is being run by Sophia, our Station Manager, Sophie, our Treasurer, and Gabby, our social media secretary.

our story

UBTV launched in 2012, meaning we celebrated our 10 year anniversary last year. Since then, our society has continued to grow in popularity with both members and audiences. However, our equipment is dated, and has not been replaced in over 7 years. Our society was also hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, like many other businesses and societies. This meant that we did not have as great an income from memberships to save for new equipment or attract a range of members.

This year we have raised funds for a new camera through society memberships, which has begun to increase again. Since then, we have seen a rise in the number of students getting involved with filming and presenting. However, our editing team is lacking because students do not have the right equipment or access. As a society, we believe everyone should have equal access and opportunities to edit. You should not need to have the latest software or fastest computer, and this is something we should be providing as a society. We also wish to encourage collaborative editing and 1-1 tutorials. A new iMac would make this possible.

Where will the money go?

The money that is raised will go directly towards the purchase of a new iMac which is around £1200. We are doing our best to raise as much as possible so we can contribute towards this. If we reach £600 of funding, the University will provide match funding to help us reach our goal. Please donate and help us unlock this match funding!

Should we exceed our amount, the money will be put towards a variety of editing software and larger projects such as our very own talent show or music event.
